The Kasparov Chess Foundation Presents

KCF University Cup

Online Global Tournament

The KCF University Cup Will Take Place on February 6 – 7, 2021, 

via the LiChess.org platform.

 

New York, NY, Dec. 17, 2020 — The Kasparov Chess Foundation announces the KCF University Cup, which will take place online, February 6-7, 2021.  The tournament is open to teams from colleges and universities from all over the world.

The KCF University Cup is an international online event which is open to teams from a post-secondary school (university, college, community college, etc.) enrolled in at least one class in the January 2021 semester. A team consists of four players plus one alternate.  There is no entry fee for teams to participate at the KCF University Cup.

A nine-round team, Swiss system tournament over the two days, with a rapid time control, will be played on the free and non-commercial chess platform, lichess.org.

First place winning team will receive the KCF University Cup and exclusive online team training session with legendary World Champion Garry Kasparov.

The top team in the U2200 category will also receive an online team training session with Garry Kasparov.  Plaques will be awarded to the top three teams in the final overall standings as well as to the top team in the U2200, U2000, and U1800 rating categories.  Plaques will also be awarded to the top team per FIDE Continent (Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe).

Kasparov Chess Foundation established a multinational team of officials and organizers to ensure a fair and friendly competition.  Officials include: Michael Khodarkovsky, Kasparov Chess Foundation President; Grandmaster Alex Onischuk, US Chess College Committee Chair; International Arbiter Grant Oen, Chief Arbiter; International Arbiter Ignatius Leong, Kasparov Chess Foundation Asia-Pacific Director; Graham Jurgensen, KCF Africa Director; Grandmaster Zlatko Klaric, KCF Adriatic Director; Grandmaster Darcy Lima, KCF Lusophone Director.

Youth Chess Festival Zagreb 27. 12. 2016

At the luxurious Westin hotel in Zagreb the first part of the chess festival was held, in which 121 participants from three countries were participating. The game was played in five categories: U9, U11, U13, U15 and U19.
There were 7 tournament rounds with a time control of 10 minutes and 5 seconds. It was the first time that the new Kasparov Chess Foundation chess equipment was used, which consisted of chess sets, boards and clocks.

Youth Chess Festival Adriatic 2016, Split

SPLIT 24. – 27. 08. 2016

Youth Chess Festival “Adriatic 2016.” was held from 24th to 27th August in Split. The festival, organized by Garry Kasparov Foundation Adriatic, University of Split, CRO UNUM and the Chess Club E4, brought together 80 participants from 9 countries. The festival consisted of three tournaments, and each tournament was played in competitions for 10, 12, 16 and 20 year olds. This is the second year of the festival, and it already, with its high number of participants and its international character, put Split on the chess map of Europe for young people. In addition to the festival, chess camp for young people was held from 21 – 23. August. Adriatic 2016 promotes the project “Chess with school,” which allows students free learning of chess by model of Garry Kasparov Foundation Adriatic.

International Youth Chess Festival “Zagreb 2015/16”

1st Tournament – “Zagreb 2015/16” – December 27th, 2015

The first tournament of the Chess Festival for youth “Zagreb 2015/16” was held on Sunday, December 27th 2015. There were more than 150 players from Croatia, Slovenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The sponsor of the festival was Kasparov Chess Foundation Adriatic and the arrival of Mr. Garry Kasparov was of great significance for the tournament itself.

International Youth Chess Festival “Zagreb 2015/16”

2nd Tournament – “Zagreb 2015/16” – January 19th-21st, 2016

After the tournament in December, the Westin hotel in Zagreb hosted another chess tournament for the youth. The second tournament gathered 98 participants from four countries (Croatia, Austria, Switzerland and Slovenia), who competed in four categories – under 10, 12, 16 and 20 years of age.
